Men’s Ultrasound Scans

Fast, Accurate & Without Referral

Ultrasound imaging is a safe, effective, and non-invasive way to assess many areas of the body. While ultrasound scans are suitable for everyone, some types are specifically focused on male anatomy, helping to examine areas such as the prostate, testicles, and groin. These scans play an important role in identifying potential health concerns early and guiding appropriate treatment.

Prostate Ultrasound

A prostate ultrasound is a non-invasive scan used to assess the size, shape, position, and overall health of the prostate gland. It can help identify conditions such as an enlarged prostate (benign prostatic hyperplasia), prostatitis, or prostate cancer. This scan may be recommended if a blood test shows a raised PSA (prostate-specific antigen) level or if you are experiencing urinary or pelvic symptoms.

The scan is carried out using a small probe that is gently inserted into the rectum to capture detailed images of the prostate. The probe is similar in size to a finger, and a protective cover and lubricating gel are used to ensure comfort during the procedure.

Prostate ultrasound is an important tool for detecting and monitoring prostate conditions, supporting early diagnosis and timely medical care.

Testicular Ultrasound

Testicular ultrasound is used to examine the testicles and surrounding structures within the scrotum. It helps clinicians investigate symptoms such as pain, swelling, or lumps and can assist in diagnosing conditions including testicular torsion, epididymitis, varicoceles, and other abnormalities.

This scan produces clear images of the testicles, epididymis, and scrotal tissues, allowing healthcare professionals to assess changes or concerns accurately. It is particularly valuable in determining whether a lump is fluid-filled, such as a cyst, or made up of solid tissue that may require further investigation.

Testicular ultrasound plays a key role in the early detection of testicular cancer, where early diagnosis greatly improves treatment outcomes.

How to Prepare for a Men’s Ultrasound Scan

You will receive clear preparation instructions before your appointment. For a transrectal prostate ultrasound, you may be asked to avoid eating or drinking for a short period beforehand.

On the day of your scan, please arrive on time for your appointment. You may be asked to change into a gown and lie on an examination couch. A gel will be applied to the area being examined, and a handheld probe will be used to capture images. For prostate scans, the probe will be inserted into the rectum.

Once the scan is complete, you can return to your normal activities. Your results will be provided digitally, along with a follow-up call from a clinician to explain the findings and discuss any next steps if required.

Male ultrasound scans, including prostate and testicular ultrasound, are an important part of maintaining men’s health by helping detect and diagnose conditions early. Whether you’re experiencing symptoms or seeking reassurance, private ultrasound scans offer a straightforward way to take control of your health and access the care you need.
